Joint Services September 2024
13 September 2024
September services are at Prestwick South Church
The Boys’ Brigade (or BB for short) is an organisation designed to give boys and young men something interesting, challenging and fun to do.
Our organisation was started in Glasgow over 100 years ago, and today Companies just like ours can be found all round the World!
The BB has a badge, just like your favourite football team, and as you can see it’s an anchor. Our motto,“SURE AND STEADFAST”, is written on the anchor.
The aim of the BB is “the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Discipline, Reverence, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness”. That means that we want young men to grow up knowing about Jesus, to know how to behave properly, and to be proud of themselves. If everyone could do that then the world would be a much nicer place to live in. However, we want you to have fun as you learn! How do we do it? Read on to find out!
The Anchor Boys is for all boys in P1 (Provided they are 5 years old) – P3.
The Anchors Programme has a weekly theme, for example, seasons, food and colour. We play team races and games and then have a story, a quiz or do arts and crafts – all related to the week’s theme. These activities all count towards the Anchor Achievement which the boys work for over the session. If successful the boys are awarded with a badge and certificates to demonstrate their hard work. There are also other awards available for performance and behaviour.
The Junior Section is for all boys in P4-6. Each week we set aside time for team as well as individual games and activities. We take part in many competitions and quizzes with other Companies each year, including swimming, figure marching, mime anddrama, PT, football, and other sports.
Each year you will work towards gaining achievements which help you to learn while having fun and you will be awarded at the end of every year when we hold a display night, where family and friends come to see what we have done during the year. Awards are given to boys and squads who have performed and behaved well.
The Company Section is for all boys Primary 7 to Secondary 6. Throughout the year the company section work towards 3 badge groups Skills, Community and Recreation, involving a variety of activities including: camping, plumbing, map reading, cooking, first aid, survival and many more. It’s not all hard work though as we have time for football, dodge ball, hockey, badminton and other sports every week. Over the last few years we have tried a lot of new activities whilst away at camp these have included: abseiling, rock climbing, sumo wrestling, mountain biking and white water rafting to name but a few.
At the end of your time with the company section we hope you will have recieved the King's badge the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade. This award is well recognised by the community and employers.
We meet every Friday during school term, starting 13 September 2024, at the Church Halls in Monkton Road, Prestwick – right next door to our Church. There will be an Enrolment Night on Friday 6 September from 6-8.00pm: Anchor Boys commencing 6.00pm; Junior Section commencing at 6.30pm and Company Section commencing at 7.00pm.
